Best Waiheke Beaches
Waiheke has 144 Kms of coastline, which means we are spoilt for choice when it comes to beautiful beaches. Here are a few of our favorites.
Oneroa Beach
Just down from the main street of Oneroa Village, you'll find the white sand of Oneroa Beach and wonderful safe, all-tide swimming in the clear waters of Oneroa Bay. Oneroa Bay is a favourite anchorage for visiting yachts with free Gas BBQs, toilets, and easy access to the shops in the village.
Little Oneroa
Little Oneroa is favourite beach and picnic or BBQ spot and excellent for families with small children. With its beautiful white sand and excellent all-tide swimming, free gas BBQ's, picnic tables, and kids playground.
Palm Beach
Located just 4 km from Oneroa Village, you'll find the beautiful white sands of Palm Beach – a local favourite with safe all-tide swimming, two public BBQ areas, and a children’s playground. Across the road, there is the Palm Beach Store where you can get general store supplies, ice cream, coffee, and their famous toasted sandwiches or if you want something a bit more, then Arcadia Restaurant is right next door.
Onetangi Beach
Stretching approximately 2km in length, Onetangi has huge Pohutukawa trees overhanging some of the whitest sand and clearest waters of all the Waiheke beaches. There are free public gas BBQs with picnic tables or if you want something a little more, you can choose from one of the three great restaurants overlooking the beach – Charlie Farley’s, Three Seven Two, and Ki Maha. Onetangi has safe all-tide swimming and once a year, at low tide, is home to the famous Onetangi Beach Races were horses, tractors, and 'Sea Legs' boats race along the beach! Onetangi Beach is located just under 10 km from Oneroa Village
.
Sandy Bay - Hekerua Bay - Enclosure Bay
Beautiful Sandy Bay on Waiheke Island is a favourite for those who looking for peace and tranquillity with safe, all-tide swimming and beautiful white sand. Sandy Bay is located halfway between Oneroa and Palm Beach, just 4 km by road from Oneroa Village.
Sandy Bay is a lovely small beach and bay for swimming and snorkeling, paddle boarding, and kayaking.
Enclosure Bay is just 100 metres or so along the road from Sandy Bay. Almost enclosed by rocks, it's like a huge, crystal clear swimming pool at mid to high tides. Good snorkeling can be found off Enclosure Bay as well.
Hekerua Bay is to be found just around the Coastal Walkway to the west of Sandy Bay and can only be accessed by foot or by sea. Another lovely, secluded, and tiny beach with trees for shade and wonderful peace and quiet.
Whakanewha Regional Park
At the eastern side of Rocky Bay is Waiheke Island's beautiful Whakanewha Regional Park. This beautiful place has a lovely white sand & shell beach and crystal clear water. It is one of the most delightful places on Waiheke Island for a delicious high tide swim! The DOC Park provides picnic tables, free public Gas BBQ's and toilet facilities and it's a lovely spot to take a picnic and enjoy the views back to Auckland. Whakanewha is also home to the only campsite on Waiheke.
